The past year has been a bizarre one, but this year is looking up! With that in mind, home trends over the last year have become very focused on the outdoor living spaces. For 2021, we've listed what we're seeing at the top trends!
In a recent survey, 70% of respondents who were upgrading their space, were adding an outdoor kitchen space.
This can mean a shade covered grilling space, a place for dining, or perhaps built-in cabinets & counterspace with an outdoor TV for entertaining.
Year Round Gathering
To use your outdoor living space year-round, some upgrades are likely necessary.
Plentiful seating, a fire feature, and protection from weather are high on the list of wants.
Lighting is also helps the space be usable in the evenings, or in the off season when it gets dark (entirely too early).
This is becoming an increasing priority, especially in higher density areas.
The more private a space feels, the more desirable it becomes - quite the bonus to potential home buyers!
This trend can fit in every budget - roll up screens, cedar boards, living wall, or custom metal panels.
Again, focus on a more livable space, with shade helping provide that space for every generation.
Could add a shade sail, or pergola covering for additional protection or weather-proofing.
While there are DIY kits available, these can be affordable & easily customized by using a contractor.
Priority on Lighting
Now your space can be used for the late-night hangouts or early in the morning for some sunrise coffee.
Lighting also provides both security & safety - think stair lighting.
Pools, Spas, & Water Features
COVID sure helped push this one along, and now consumers are wanting their backyard to be the destination.
Composite decking helps this destination be maintenance free & more enjoyable.
Fish ponds & fountains can help make the space feel more relaxing.
Native Gardens & Planting with a Purpose
Consumers are becoming more mindful about waste, water consumption, and being self-sustaining.
Native plantings are great for regional birds & insects -- save those bees!
They also can provide year-round aesthetics.
They usually need less water, more pest-resistant, etc.
Edible gardens can be easy to maintain and you reap the benefits!
We are looking forward to a great 2021 and helping our clients create the backyard of their dreams. If you think you'd like to know more about any of these trends, reach out to Summit Outdoor Designs today!
