Does your living space need that little something extra? We created a list of upgrades for under $1000 for your outdoor living space. These could make your space stand out from the rest and now, the Jones' will be trying to keep up with YOU!
A privacy wall can make your space feel more intimate while also helping with wind or sun issues.
This can easily be added to your project for under $1000 using cedar.
Could also easily cost more for a custom screen or metal frame screen. We love Oasis Privacy Screens.
Helical Screw Piles
Helical screw piles are a different version of a foundation for your deck. They are drilled deep underground to order to disperse the enormous weight that sits atop.
Once installed, a contractor can build atop them immediately. There is no cure time as there is with a concrete pier.
They cost a bit more than a traditional concrete pier, but saves you time for labor & for concrete curing, so your project gets done faster!
Oiling Your Wood Deck
An oil is so important to keeping your deck in the best shape possible.
This oil deeply penetrates the wood to protect it from water damage and makes it resistant of mildew & UV damage.
A low penetrating oil is better than just a top coat paint, stain, or sealant.
Adding lighting to your space takes it to the next level.
Stair & Railing lights are a great idea for both safety & aesthetics.
Lighting also makes your space more usable into the evenings & later in the season.
This project could easily be done for under $1000.
If your contractor is doing it, it likely could be made out of the decking scraps or for only a couple additional boards.
Adds some functionality to your space.
This is the same idea as the bench; could easily be made out of scrap & quickly so it shouldn't cost too much extra.
Once it has been planted, it can make the outdoor space feel cozier & more relaxing.
A beautifully built deck can be completely enhanced by a single feature - skirting it. This means enclosing the underside of the deck.
If it's not covered, it can appear unfinished, especially if the deck is raised & the bottom is visible.
If using decking, could potentially cost more than $1000.
To stay under $1000, lattice is a great option.
DeckAll Mesh is a new & improved version of lattice and is a happy medium as it can be trimmed out with decking & is affordable.
Gate Under Deck
If you're already planning on skirting your deck, adding a gate to access the space would be very affordable!
A gate would mean that this space now becomes a usable storage area for your various lawn equipment that may not get used as often such as wheelbarrow or perhaps seasonal outdoor decor.
With lumber prices where they are, this will likely be more than $1000, but should be relatively close for a standard size pergola.
If you're wanting a custom/large-scale build, or perhaps a shade sail installed, that'll be extra.
Plenty of DIY options, but be sure to install them properly or it could present a major safety hazard.
To upgrade your railing, is to upgrade the entire space.
Any railing besides the box store spindles/pickets will take your deck to the next level! Doesn't have to be top of the line.
Most decks only have about 40 linear feet of railing, making the average upgrade fairly affordable.
